Kaguya-sama: Love is War (Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen) Episode 11 Review

Kaguya-sama: The Heartfelt Rom-Com

I've said this before and I'll say it again: Kaguya-sama: Love is War is my favorite anime of this season. The show is winding down to its conclusion and for this week we got to see another side to Kaguya's life.

Most of this weeks episode had the usual funny skits and moments throughout but this time we were able to get more of Kaguya's maid, Ai Hayasaka. We get to see her perspective on Kaguya's matters of love and advises her on what she should be doing even though Kaguya is too stubborn to listen. Hayasaka acts very much in place of the viewer, pointing out things that the viewer wishes they could just tell Kaguya and Shirogane. She's the voice of reason most of the time and it is very evident that she cares deeply for Kaguya's well-being with how much she puts up with Kaguya's nonsense at times.

The part that I want to discuss the most is the part that came after the ED. In this we get narration from Kaguya talking about her upbringing and her relationships with her friends and family. We see that she truly treasures her friends and the time that she spends with them. But things don't go smoothly for her and we finally see what her relationship with her family is like. She states that people around her have always treated her differently because of who she is, never wanting to interact or talk to. We see that her Father is cold and does not care much for his daughter and in that moment we see why Hayasaka cares so much for Kaguya. It implies that her Father doesn't love her and never really loved her. She was merely "like a Japanese doll", sat there to show off and nothing more. Now we see why Hayasaka fights so hard to break Kaguya out of her usual ways and always tries to do what's best for her.

This episode started off by frustrating you with how stubborn Kaguya was being with such simple things and blowing them out of proportion. But by the end, after you see everything that she's been through and how hard it has been for her to change into who she is now, you want to root for her. You want her to break free of her family lineage and find true happiness.

But that's just my two cents. Thanks for reading.
