Anime Fall 2020 Week 1 First Impressions

Anime Fall 2020 Week 1 First Impressions      A new season of anime has just begun and that means new stuff to keep us occupied for the remainder of 2020. The line up this season is full of stuff that were extraordinarily hyped up and stuff that has flown under the radar. Some things lived up to the hype, some things disappointed, and some things came out of no where and jumped to the top. Here I will be grading each of the first episodes from the shows I've watched so far this season. I will be grading on a 10 point grade scale and basing it off a school grading system (10 = A+, 9 = A, 8 = B, 7 = C, 6 = D, 5 and below = F). TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You (7.7/10)       A lovely, wholesome, slice of life, romance. What more can I say. The comedy was on point and the characters are lively and fun. The chemistry between the two main leads is interesting with the main guy being very animated and emotional while the main girl is very much the kuudere cool type who can show off her cut

Rent-A-Girlfriend: Kazuya is THE WORST

Rent-A-Girlfriend: An Example of Head Scratching Character Writing      One of the hottest new shows this season that has sprung a number of internet memes and waifu's has definitely been Rent-A-Girlfriend ( Kanojo, Okarishimasu ) .  It's a show revolving around a man in college named Kazuya Kinoshita, a self-proclaimed virgin who is awkward around women and who just had his girlfriend dump him. In his sadness of losing his girlfriend, Kazuya stumbles across an advertisement for a Rent-A-Girlfriend, an industry that lets men rent out women to pretend to be their girlfriend for a day. Through this he meets a beautiful girl named Chizuru Ichinose and a web of lies and drama ensues as these two's lives become intertwined with one another.  For this show there is a lot to talk about when it comes to the characters and how they act, but the biggest and most standout character that just leaves a bad taste in your mouth has to be the main character in Kazuya. Ther

The Curious Case of SUPER HXEROS

SUPER HXEROS: To Ecchi or Not To Ecchi       With this new season of anime we welcomed in a new batch of shows. There's returning shows like Oregairu , A Certain Scientific Railgun , Fire Force , and Re:Zero , as well as new shows like The God of High School , Rent-a-Girlfriend , and Uzaki-san Wants to Hang Out . Among those new shows is SUPER HXEROS. The show is currently five weeks into its series and it has been the most curious show to me. Not because the animation is great. Not because the characters are revolutionary. And not because the story is engaging or fascinating. The thing that has caught my attention about this weird show is the censorship. Ecchi shows have always been a genre that are an "acquired taste" when it comes to the anime community. Some don't like it because it seems immature while others don't like it because of the predictability of certain tropes that characters experience. These days, ecchi shows are watched more for their me

BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I Maxed Out My Defense VS Infinite Dendrogram: The Battle of the VRMMO's of Winter 2020

BOFURI vs Infinite Dendrogram: Battle of the VRMMO for Winter 2020           In a market dominated by the likes of Sword Art Online (SAO), the shows that revolved around the concept of VRMMO's has lacked in originality and quality. Whenever shows like these come out, it becomes natural for people to compare it to  SAO whether that be for better or worse. For this I would like to talk about a couple of shows that have come out this season, discuss the differences between these them and why I think that one works while the other is just following the natural order of the genre. Both worlds seem to take influence from what SAO had originally built upon. The fantasy style setting with the ability to wander a living, breathing virtual world. However, the difference between BOFURI and Infinite Dendrogram become apparent when everything else is taken into consideration.                 We are a quarter of the way through this season for these two shows but I will say that I

Fire Force Sets Anime World On Fire With Episode One

Fire Force Sets Anime World On Fire With  Its Fantastic Animation The first episode of Fire Force has finally premiered after weeks of talk had been building up behind it. With a studio as famous as David Productions producing this anime, high expectations were there and waiting. Now that it is out, what can be said other than, "WOW!" The beginning of the episode opens with a scene that sets up the enemies that our main protagonist will be facing throughout the series and we also get our first glimpse at Fire Team 8 and what they are all capable of. Through a downright extraordinary scene of fantastic animation, we get to see the extent of what our main character Shinra is capable of. Throughout the episode we get flashbacks into Shinra's past and what has motivated him to get to where he is in the present. A terrible tragedy followed by a heinous misunderstanding has left him broken inside with a burning passion to avenge his mother and brother, whom

The Quintessential Quintuplets (Gotoubun no Hanayome) Chapter 88 Manga Review

The Yotsuba Arc Everyone Has Been Waiting For A new chapter of the manga dropped and it continues the long awaited Yotsuba arc that everyone has been waiting for, and so far, it hasn't disappointed. If anything this arc has brought Yotsuba up in ranking among fans as to who is the favorite of all of them.  In this chapter we get to see a flashback where young Yotsuba and yound Futaro are hanging out in the city after both of them got lost and having the time of their lives. The two of them hit it off and we get to see the reason for why Futaro grew up into the way he is in the present. It was all thanks to Yotsuba's inspiration that Futaro started studying so hard. It was a fantastic chapter that really delved into the mindset of Yotsuba. It also gave us the reason as to why the sisters ended up being so different from each other as they grew up. In this chapter we got to see Yotsuba being the first one to break out of being a twin after witnessing Futaro

Kaguya-sama: Love is War (Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen) Episode 11 Review

Image
Kaguya-sama: The Heartfelt Rom-Com I've said this before and I'll say it again: Kaguya-sama: Love is War is my favorite anime of this season .The show is winding down to its conclusion and for this week we got to see another side to Kaguya's life.  Most of this weeks episode had the usual funny skits and moments throughout but this time we were able to get more of Kaguya's maid, Ai Hayasaka. We get to see her perspective on Kaguya's matters of love and advises her on what she should be doing even though Kaguya is too stubborn to listen. Hayasaka acts very much in place of the viewer, pointing out things that the viewer wishes they could just tell Kaguya and Shirogane. She's the voice of reason most of the time and it is very evident that she cares deeply for Kaguya's well-being with how much she puts up with Kaguya's nonsense at times.  The part that I want to discuss the most is the part that came after the ED. In this we get narration f
